Want to get involved in the CSE?  Here's a description of what our representatives do:

 Position Title: CSE Rep

Position Objective (what is the primary goal to achieve):

-Represent your school in the CSE (a district-wide, parent-led organization which supports students with IEP’s GIEP’s, and 504 Service Agreements).

-Represent the CSE  to both the school and to the families it serves.

Essential Functions:

- Attend HSA meetings (esp. meetings, like 1st meeting of year, that target new parents) to introduce
the CSE and its role, hand out CSE brochure, have sign-up sheet for interested parents

-Advertise CSE meetings to your school, making sure meeting announcements are published in your school's weekly listserv, newletter, or
in the Thursday envelope sent home to parents.

- Attend CSE rep meetings to discuss future events and policy (2-3 meetings a year).

- Attend as many CSE sponsored events as you can.

- Make your contact information (e-mail address or phone number) available to families in your school who may contact you with questions.
Feel free to pass questions on to the CSE co-presidents, who can put families in touch with other families or community resources who
     can help meet their needs.

Tasks to be completed before an event:

-Communicate the CSE-sponsored events (general meetings and brown bag lunches) to Publicity Chair Person or listserv editor.  If it is an
event that could benefit all families with children, as many of their events are, add flyer to be copied to Thursday envelope (elementaries).
If you're a middle or high school rep, always post in the listservs.

Tasks to be completed the day of the event: you may be asked to help with setting up for meetings or bringing snacks.

Tasks to be completed after the event: minimal clean up.

Marginal Functions (non-essential functions but very helpful for success): -   Making sure the principal, assistant principals and guidance   counselors at your school have enough CSE brochures to give out to families at all IEP’s, GIEP’s or 504 Service Agreements.  The brochure describes this district wide resource and directs families to its website. Meet with principal to request that school administratrive personnel (principal, guidance counselor, nurse, etc.) give families the brochure.

Principal working relationships (works closely with…):

-CSE Co-Presidents; other CSE representatives;  school Listserv Editor or Publicity Chair Person

Helpful Abilities and skills:

-Network with families to get them to the resources and information they are seeking.

Service Location  (where most of incumbent’s time is spent):

-Email and attending CSE events.

Estimated Time Spent on a Monthly Basis:

-2 hours a month (at most)  (including time attending events).

If you want to do more:
-Contact current co-presidents to suggest topics, activities for families, and events.  Help set up for general meetings, attend the brown bag
lunches, volunteer for sub-committees (standing sub-committees are the Survey sub-committee, the District Policy sub-committee, and
the Gifted sub-committee, but more can be formed depending on interest).  The CSE seeks to bring families together to support each other,
so the more information-gathering and networking you do with other families, the better!
