                  The Committee for Special Education (CSE) is a parent-led volunteer organization serving families of children with an IEP, GIEP, or 504 Service Agreements in Lower Merion School District since 1972.

                  The Committee for Special Education:

                  • Offers families educational resources and information on topics about the education and provision of services for a child with (or thought to need) an IEP, GIEP, or 504 Service Agreement.
                  • Informs parents about laws and policies that affect families of children with educational, social, emotional, or medical needs.
                  • Builds leadership among families to help them obtain resources and services, and expand opportunities for their children and young adults with special needs.
                  • Promotes educational diversity and the recognition and acceptance of different learning styles.
                  • Collaborates with LMSD administrators, community organizations, and professionals to gain expertise and resources for families within the Lower Merion community.

                  The Lower Merion Committee for Special Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

                  Person-Centered Planning, a strategy to begin planning the after-school lives of students with disabilities,

                  led by Diane Perry of PEAC and the Center for Disabilities at Temple University.

                                  Brown Bag Meetings
                  Led by our CSE vice-president Vicki Peetros and other CSE representatives, these meetings are informal gatherings for family members to discuss concerns and develop solutions.  They are held the first Wednesday of the month, either at lunch time (11:30-1) or in the evening (7-8:30).
