Welcome to the Lower Merion School District
Committee for Special Education!
Founded in 1972, the Lower Merion School District Committee for Special Education (CSE) is a parent-led, district-recognized organization to support families and caregivers with students with IEPs, GIEPs and 504 Plans. Education, advocacy and community are at the core of everything the CSE does, along with a dogged commitment to equal access and inclusion across Lower Merion School District. We provide support in many ways, including:

  • Representation in each school. Committee representatives are assigned to each building to support families and promote inclusion in school programming and events while also helping parents/guardians connect with helpful resources in and around the District.
  • Hosting a monthly education series. A rotating calendar of topics related to special education and gifted programming are covered including IEP guidance, advocacy, executive functioning, transition, managing anxiety, internet safety and more. The CSE Educational Series includes presentations from District staff, the LM Intermediate Unit, PaTTAN, the PA Inclusion Collective, local universities, parent advocacy groups and national and international experts. Attendance is free of charge and is open to parents, guardians and educators.
  • Regularly scheduled meetings with district administration. The CSE shares feedback from parents on systemic issues affecting special education, 504 plans and gifted programs. CSE leadership helps to identify areas of opportunity and assists with planning new initiatives where appropriate. The Committee offers assistance with communicating District information to parents/guardians when requested.
  • Social events. The CSE hosts gatherings throughout the school year where parents and caregivers can connect with a network of people who understand their shared experiences. The goal is to build community and lend support in an informal and inviting atmosphere.

The Committee for Special Education welcomes any and all people who feel passionately about creating a more inclusive community in Lower Merion School District. To get involved, please email [email protected].
