The Committee for Special Education (CSE) is a parent-led, volunteer organization serving families of children with IEPs, GIEPs, and/or 504 Service Agreements in the Lower Merion School District since 1972.

Our mission is to support families
with information about laws and policies that affect families of children with educational, social, emotional, or medical needs.
The CSE offers:
  • Definitions and context around common terminology associated with Special Education including IEP, GIEPs, 504s, Annotated IEPs and general Community Resources.
  • Monthly Educational Programs.
  • CSE School Representatives. Each Lower Merion school has volunteer CSE Representatives with whom you can talk to and find out how to get connected and find resources in and around the district.
  • Parent Socials.  Informal gatherings to meet and share information with other families.
  • Advocacy. The CSE helps families advocate for their children to obtain resources and services through training and parent/guardian supports. We work to expand opportunities for children and young adults with special needs.
  • Collaboration with LMSD administrators to share parent perspectives, improve programming and policies, and solve problems.

CSE February Transition Series (weekly):  A 4-part series on building an inclusive life for students with disabilities. Starts February 1st.

WHEN: The 4-part series will be held every Wednesday in February, 6-8 pm, starting February 1st. For details on each session, see the attached flyer or click here.

It’s never too early to start thinking about and planning for life beyond school for all students, but especially for our students with disabilities. The PA Inclusion Collective is excited to bring another thought-provoking, practical 4-part virtual series focused on advancing inclusion.

This February, we are proud to host
"Starting with the End in Mind,” to detail how to design an inclusive educational experience starting in the earliest grades in order to establish the foundation for a successful transition to adulthood for students with disabilities.

REGISTER AND SPREAD THE WORD. Register here.
You must register to receive access to the sessions and recordings.

Our featured speakers will be award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib and his son Samuel Habib, a 23-year old college student and aspiring multimedia producer, who will share their work and perspective to help you and your student with disabilities transition to higher education and integrated employment as adults.

The CSE welcomes new volunteers. Please contact CSE at cse.lmsd@gmail.com  if you would like to be a CSE rep for your school, contribute ideas for programming, or network with other parents.
