Want to Get Involved in the CSE?
Welcome to the Lower Merion School District Committee for Special Education (CSE). We are pleased that you are interested in becoming a CSE Representative. The CSE welcomes parents/guardians of current Lower Merion students to become involved in our work. There are two CSE parent/guardian volunteer representatives assigned to each of LMSD’s 11 schools. You would be assigned to the school that your child attends. Below is a basic description of what the volunteer position entails. - Serves as a point person (assigned to a specified LMSD school building) for parents/guardians to reach out to with questions and concerns regarding topics related to LMSD special education and related services. The CSE Representative’s main role is to connect people with appropriate and helpful resources and information. When possible, the CSE Representative will help connect parents/guardians to others experiencing similar situations.
- Approximate time commitment is 2 hours/month.
- Collaborates with co-rep on an ongoing basis. Each representative has a partner at their school.
- Attends quarterly meetings hosted by the CSE Executive Officers, along with fellow CSE Representatives from other buildings. Although not required, CSE Reps are also invited to attend Educational Series events, social gatherings, fundraisers, etc. (some of which are virtual). There may be additional opportunities to participate in special projects and CSE committees.
- Communicates CSE news and events to respective schools by sharing this information on the appropriate school social media pages, in school newsletters and with your HSA.
- Attends HSA meetings to further promote awareness of CSE’s mission with meeting attendees. Connects with HSA officers when it is needed to discuss CSE initiatives and to discuss any upcoming meeting agenda items.
- Creates an ongoing relationship with school Principal, keeping CSE objectives top-of-mind and partnering with them to communicate CSE news and information to teachers and staff.
- Serves as a liaison, receiving information/feedback about possible systemic/school-wide issues regarding special education, gifted education and 504 plan delivery. Reps are responsible for bringing this information to the attention of the CSE Executive Board for group discussion. CSE Representatives are not responsible for taking action regarding systemic problems.
- Agrees to be listed as a CSE Representative on the CSE website, in school directory, etc., along with pertinent contact information.
- Abides by “Confidentiality First” policy in any/all situations.
